Wind Tunnel

Following on from the tremendous success of Robins erection (see Oct. to Dec. 2007 newsletter) he has now moved on to wind! Its a man thing! In February Robin Jones (Technical Director) spotted an opportunity to further increase our range of capabilities when a wind tunnel was put up for sale through the MoD auctions. Later that month Robin and Simon toddled off to RAF Cranwell in Lincolnshire and fully dismantled the unit on-site. Two van trips later all the pieces were reassembled at our Telford annex. Robin has now completed commissioning of the wind tunnel, which was originally manufactured in 1964 by Airscrews Ltd and can attain fully controllable wind speeds in excess of 65mph through an 18inch x 18inch duct. This now gives Electroservices the capability to calibrate rotating cup-type, vain and thermal-type anemometers with an uncertainty of +/-1.0% over a range of approximately 4-30m/s.
